The two-day event was hosted by DHI in collaboration with the Danish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI). The aim of the conference was to provide support to the European industry – with special attention on Nordic issues – in fulfilling their Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) obligations. The main topics of the conference were:
- Guidelines and company strategies for REACH registration before the 2018 deadline
- Learnings from the REACH authorisations – do’s and don’ts
- Fulfilling data requirements with non-test methods such as the QSAR toolbox
The conference saw a turnout of over 100 participants; decision makers, regulatory affairs managers, regulatory specialists and scientific staff, consultants, Contract Research Organisations (CROs) as well as government authorities and so on.
Participants got an update from regulators and authorities on lessons learnt from previous registrations and authorisations. In addition, industry representatives shared their learnings on how to prepare for authorisations and the strategies they have adopted for the forthcoming 2018 registrations. The use of registration data and exposure scenarios, as well as specific tools for alternative data generation such as the QSAR toolbox were also discussed. Endocrine disrupting chemicals – a topical issue of special interest in the Nordic countries – also featured on the agenda. A couple of attendees share their thoughts:

DHI was represented by the Department of Environment and Toxicology and our Director of Consultancy, Christian Grøn. Poul Bo Larsen, DHI’s Chief Toxicologist, shared a presentation of using non-test methods in order to fulfil the requirements under REACH. The presentation covered relevant data sources for fulfilling the requirements, including guidance on considerations and useful tools.
